Workplace Giving

With the assistance of The Australian Charities Fund, Goldman Sachs launched the firm's Workplace Giving program in June 2004. The program allows team members to donate to a select group of charities directly from their pre-tax salary.

Team members selected the program charities by completing a survey that allowed us to establish the community interests and involvement of all our people. For the recipient charities, Workplace Giving provides a no-cost source of recurrent funding.

To maintain a vital program that continues to reflect the interests of our team, eleven new charities have been added to the program in July 2006. These groups have been selected following a survey of all team members.

Community TeamWorks

In 1997, Goldman Sachs worldwide launched its signature volunteering program called Community TeamWorks (CTW). Through this annual initiative, all team members are encouraged to spend a day out of the office and participate in team-based projects that serve the local communities. The objectives are: to make long-lasting community commitments; and to promote the firm's culture and values internally and externally. The program operates during May, June and July each year.

CTW makes a tangible difference in the community and has already become a well established and eagerly anticipated activity for our teams in Australia and New Zealand.

Australian Business and Community Network

ABCN is a group of businesses creating positive social change through practical programs that engage students, educators and business people. Established in early 2005, the coalition works with schools that have areas of need to give students more support, educators more options and business a better bottom line.

In 2005, Goldman Sachs became a founding member of the ABCN. A number of employees volunteered to participate in a series of pilot programs partnering business and public schools in south Western Sydney. This included Business Leader and School Principal mentoring partnerships, the GOALS Year 9 mentoring program, SPARK Reading & Literature Program for years 2 and 3, and Career Choice Day.

Since 2007 Goldman Sachs has participated in Career Choice Day. Each year approximately 1,000 students from years 10 and 11 travel into their local CBD to visit workplaces and learn about the opportunities which exist for them, and about the range of jobs available within these organisations.
